Star Register is one of the leading “name a star” services online today. Like many other such sites, starregister.com boasts the ability to name bright constellation stars, visible in the United States, and registered in their official database of star names. Every purchase comes with a gift packet, full of unique memorabilia. Despite having an easy-to-navigate site and a clear checkout experience, I believe starregister.com fails to maximize its experiential potential. My new design for the web and mobile site and checkout experience seek to change that. The final design puts the buyer in the shoes of an astronomer, observing and learning about the night sky as he/she searches for the perfect star for their special someone or special occasion. The dark, minimalist UI construction simultaneously reflects the elegance of the night sky and technical graphics of astronomical data and software.
